Rattie Adventures

Cheesecake & Mosey were allowed to spend a few minutes in the great outdoors for the first time this weekend. They sniffed, nibbled and ran their way through my flower beds. As you can see in the picture I only let one out at a time, something I learned quickly. I discovered they are natural escape artists, you give them a hint of freedom and they run for it. Though, they were pretty easy to find again since albinos do not camouflage well :)

Memorial Day

Monday we hiked down to Teddy Bear Cove, one of our favorite beaches. The tide was really low which was awesome because the starfish were easy to spot. I loved all the shades of purple ( & orange) the starfish came in, which is why I posted so many.

I never got a picture of a shrimp I tried to save (it had been washed up), but it was pretty big. It would have been good battered and fried if I had not thrown it back :)

Sunny Weekend

The weather was amazing this Memorial Day weekend. Those of you who live in the Northwest I hope you were able to get out and enjoy it.

Sunday marked the annual Ski to Sea race in Whatcom County. We got to watch the bikers come down Main Street and pass the “baton” to their fellow teammates who then canoed down the Nooksack  for 18 miles. Last year the river was too high so they canceled the canoe leg. It was neat to finally be able to see the boaters. We then grilled out (a term I learned from my midwest friends) and tossed a frisbee around. A couple Canadian friends later stopped by, it was a fun day!

I painted my laundry room too. I was tired of white so now it is a greenish color. The paint color is called Brown Buzz but it is not brown, which is funny. It looks like a different color every time I see it. I don’t have much luck with paint colors either (Julie :)) but I think I like this one.

Memorial Day next up….

Peony & Poppies

My peonies are starting to bloom, yay! I have just the one right now, but I see more buds. My poppies are filling in quite nicely too. I see a few where there were none last year, so that is good. I’ll take lots of poppies, they last from spring through fall.

Mother’s Day Weekend

Todd’s Mom, Cindy, took the train up from Olympia to stay for a couple nights this past weekend. She arrived Friday evening and left Sunday morning. It was a short visit but special.

On Saturday we drove to Bellingham Bay during low tide. We usually park on Locust street then walk down to the beach from there. We had fun walking on the mud flats, collecting sea glass and playing on a drift wood swing. Afterwards we stopped by Todd’s office to give Cindy a tour. I think she enjoyed the scooters best :)

After we dropped Cindy off at the train station we walked along Boulevard Park and had coffee & hot chocolate at Woods. I am trying to get more people shots since I only take pictures of flowers and still objects. Todd was my guinea pig for most of them, he was a good sport.
