Canoe Camping

Todd & I spent Saturday & Sunday camping with our Canadian friends Jason, Leah, Ben (the baby), & their dog Sophie. The interesting part about the trip was that we had to canoe 3 hours to our campsite. It was a lot of work but fun too! We went to Ross Lake which is mostly in Washington, but we entered from the Canadian side because the camping & parking  were free :)

Saturday we paddled our way to the campground called Little Beaver. There are a handful of sites that are on a first come first serve basis. The campground was surprisingly busy, but we did find a site up a trail overlooking the dock. We were a little far from the outhouses, but I came prepared with toilet paper :) After camp was set up,  we went for a swim along the rocky shoreline. When we got in, there were thousands of little fish everywhere! They liked to nibble on your legs so you had to keep moving while in the water. I eventually got used to them :)

After our swim we canoed up a small inlet towards a hidden waterfall (we could only hear it at first). It was a little tricky getting to the falls because we had a layer of floating logs blocking our way. Once we maneuvered past the logs, we had to paddle against the stream current to see the waterfall around the bend. It was worth the effort, the waterfall was pretty!

That evening we saw smoke from a forest fire we heard was just over the mountain. It seemed to die down not too long after we heard that, no worries.

Sunday we woke up early and had blueberry pancakes. For an experiment, Todd suggested adding M&Ms to the last of the batter. They were definitely interesting, but not too bad :) We soon packed up and were on our way home. It was short, but a fun trip with our friends. We look forward to doing this again sometime!

Okay, now that is something I would never do in a million years with a baby. Those people are very adventurous. Looks like a cool place, though!

You're much more outdoorsy than me! My idea of roughing it is a KOA! LOL

Glad you had fun!

Can you send me some of those photos? I'd like all the ones of Ben (they are so good) and the ones of Sophie too. You can send them to my email. Thanks!
