What’s in a name?

My roses have begun to open with lots of pink, peach, yellow and red blooms. All of them have buds, but I can’t quite make out some of the colors yet. I was only able to include a few names of the roses which still had tags attached. I am missing more then half of the tags, which is sad since I don’t know roses very well. The reason why there are a couple pictures of each rose is because they were taken on different days. I was playing with the lighting and am still trying to learn ISO & F-stops with my old “advanced" point & shoot :)

Teddy Bear Cove

    This is one of our favorite beaches off the Chuckanut Drive. It became our favorite while living nearby in Bellingham, now it takes about 40 minutes to get there. Once there, it is about a 3 mile round trip hike from where we have to park.  Part of the hike is down a slightly-steep trail (& back up), but it is well worth it. We usually just walk around the area (there is a bluff to hike up to), collect sea glass, or just sit and enjoy the sunshine. I got to see a river otter feeding which was pretty cool. Todd had Monday off, so we thought it would be a perfect place to relax…and it was :)

Sunday Drive

Todd & I took a drive thorough the beautiful countryside in our area. We headed East on Mount Baker Hwy through Deming for a couple miles, then right onto Mosquito Lake Rd (this is for those who know the area). Several miles down, we turned off onto an unkept road that took us through some trust lands. The first few photos are from that area. Then we made our way back on Hwy 9 through Van Zandt on home. It was quite beautiful back in there, well worth the gas :) We also visited parts of the Nooksack River, where the bridge & flower pictures were taken. The bald eagle pictured  lives near our part of the river (he was very tiny, even all the way zoomed in)

June Blooms

Back to the garden. The weather finally cooperated so I could get some flower shots. Just to warn you, there will be many more flower posts before the year is up... especially now that my roses are starting to bloom :)

Cannonball!

I have not been taking many pictures lately because it has been raining and yucky outside. I heard it's suppose to be like this all month long. Days like these I miss California summers...ok, well maybe not the heat :) But seriously...rain, rain go away! We did have a fun weekend despite the dreary weather. Todd & I went to a birthday celebration for our friends Peter & Jessica's little tyke, Jimmy. We had a fun time eating and playing cards with the adults (during Jimmy's nap of course).

On Sunday we were invited over to a couple's house that we met at church. We just started attending a little Baptist church in our area and were wanting to get to know people. The couple also invited the pastor and his wife along with another young couple. We played games and ended up chatting about the pastor's fame on America's Funniest Home Videos. A while back (before we started attending our church) my Dad sent me a You Tube video of a humorous baptism. A kid does a cannonball right into the baptismal! As we were watching it again we thought the pastor looked very familiar, a lot like ours, actually. Lo and behold, it was our pastor. They won second place on AFV. So... here is the video if you have not already seen it (watch for the second kid).

Veggies

After a few weeks, my vegetables have grown! I did lose three out of my six lettuce plants...they just wilted and died. My string peas are doing well and one of my tomato plants is also doing well. I am getting a few sprouts from my potatoes, so hopefully they are growing tubers too.

Más Flores

Have you ever seen black pansies? I discovered some in our yard the other day and I have to say they are pretty cool. The Coral Bells were left on our front porch as a May Day gift.  The pot had a note that welcomed us to the neighborhood, but was left anonymous. What wonderful neighbors we have!

Asparagus

Look how tall these things get (when you forget to pick them).  The asparagus is from our crop yield this year...by crop, I mean the two spears that popped up :)
