Fountain Park

On our last day in Arizona we spent some time at a really neat place called Fountain Park. Along with a popular disc golf course, there is a famous fountain that shoots up 300 feet every hour for a few minutes.

That same evening we drove by a cool lit up spire designed by Frank Lloyd Wright who is well known in the area.

This is the last of our vacation posts. We had a great time in Arizona and California with family and always look forward to the next time.

I love zoos and getting the opportunity to visit a new one and take Ada for the first time was very exciting. It was a lovely 85 degrees on New Year’s Eve, perfect summer weather for us Washingtonians :)

After having a great time (well, other than the flu) with my family, we headed to Phoenix, Arizona to stay with Todd’s brother Keith & his new wife Samantha. When we got there, Ada immediately fell in love with their two cute dogs Ares & Emma. Ada also discovered the use of her tongue…pretty sure the dogs taught her that with all their wet kisses.

I forgot to mention in the Christmas Eve post that Ada took her first steps in the same spot that she learned to crawl back in August, something about my parents house!

Southern California Fun

I thought I would continue the weekly posts of Ada until she reaches 52 weeks. I will have other posts mixed in so hopefully it won’t get too confusing :)

After we got to California, we spent a couple nights with my parents before heading out to stay with Matt, Cherise, Holden & Aiden for a couple nights. While there, my family decided to throw Ada her first birthday party since they couldn’t make it up for her actual birthday. We had family from both our side and Cherise’s side to help us celebrate. For some reason I don’t have a good photograph of Matt & Cherise at the party, sorry guys :)

I am finally getting to our Christmas vacation pictures :) It took us about 5 days to drive to my parents but we stopped to see family and an old friend of mine along the way. Ada got to finally meet her second cousin Elianna while we stayed in Sacramento. Elianna is such a beautiful, happy girl and it was so nice to spend a day with her and my cousins.

We then stopped in Fresno to visit an old friend of mine, Wendy, and meet her two adorable boys for the first time. It was good to see her again, although it was a very short visit.

Ada’s 1st Birthday Party

On Saturday we celebrated Ada’s first birthday with close to 40 friends (& Grandma Cindy) and it was great! Lots of babies, kids, and adults moving about in our house. Ada seemed to have a pretty good time even though she wasn’t feeling 100%. Thanks to everyone who came out and wished her a happy birthday!

I also had a little too much fun decorating & baking for her girly theme :)

Now that the party is over, I will be spending some time catching up from our 3 week Christmas vacation to California & Arizona.

Happy 1st Birthday!

Our little Ada turned a year old today. It’s hard to believe she changed from a tiny 8lb immobile infant to a walking, talking little person in only 12 months. God has truly blessed us with a beautiful, joyful, and fun loving little girl! Here’s to many more wonderful years sweet pea!

Her gift from us was Gyffy the giraffe, an inflatable bouncing animal which she will get more use from when she is older :)

46 & 47 Weeks

46 weeks: Grandma Cindy brought Bryden up with her to babysit Ada for our Logos Christmas party. Ada and Bryden had a lot of fun, especially with the hats Grandma bought them.

47 weeks: I decided to let Ada play with the ornaments for a few minutes (I had the tree blocked off with our couch). She loved the bells and stuffed animals the best.

11 Months

Ada is getting closer to walking every day. She can stand and will even take a step towards something until she realizes she is not holding on.

She is also such a little ham when we go shopping. Ada (usually) loves to smile, wave and scream with delight at people. She is very entertaining :)

Santa Baby

Our friend’s Dad was playing Santa in a nearby town so we thought it would be fun to get some pictures with Ada and her friend Noah. Poor baby, Ada did not like Santa very much. Noah did fine since he knew it was his Grandpa.

Ada was rather funny. She would cry, stop crying to look back at Santa as if to see if he were still there, see him and then proceed to cry some more. She did this a few times repeatedly.

I guess we needed the classic crying baby on Santa’s lap picture :)

Christmas Tree

We have a tradition every year of picking out trees with our friends who live right across the street. Marla, Breanna and Dylan always make for a fun adventure as we get matching trees, though we get a shorter one and they get a taller one. This year we went with a bluish tinted Noble Fir, they both are very pretty :)

I am a little sad this was our last year with the Explorer, but we love our new Pilot!

42, 43, 44 & 45 Weeks

42 weeks: In Seattle for her Uncle Keith & Auntie Samantha’s wedding. She loved sharing in their special weekend.

43 weeks: The bear snow suit was getting a little snug, so I needed a picture before it was too late.

44 weeks: Spent Thanksgiving with our friends the Bensens. Ada had started to wave (& want things) by reaching and moving all her fingers at once.

45 weeks: Ada loves to browse through magazines and catalogs :)

10 Months

Ada is starting to feel comfortable letting go with both hands when she stands. We encourage her to clap while standing and she will, but only for a short time. She is also enjoying books more. Flipping pages, talking to the characters and chewing on corners are a favorite pastime :)

Ada is cruising all around the house these days, she can even climb our full flight of stairs (with us right behind her of course). She has six teeth and loves to gnaw on everything. Ada also loves peek-a-boo, babbling, bath time, and screaming :)

Last Saturday was a beautiful day to go to a pumpkin patch so we found a cute little place less than five miles from our house called Cloud Mountain Farm. Ada enjoyed playing with the pumpkins and eating the grass in the field.

35, 36, 37 & 38 Weeks

Just a wee bit behind on posts, whoops. Ada is keeping us on our toes these days. She is walking along furniture now that she can pull herself to stand. She also can balance on two legs for a couple seconds, but only when distracted by a toy.

With all this new found freedom Ada is getting more curious about things that are definite “no-no's”, like our wood stove, potted plants, cords, etc. It’s exciting to see her morph into an intelligent little person, but challenging all at the same time :)

Ada’s first official word, besides mama & dada, is “bubble.” She likes (or at least she did for a couple days) to repeat it after we say it.

The only way I can get Ada to stay in one spot is by bribing her with Cheerios, she loves them!

Ada loves to splash and play in water. I recently had to move her bathtub from off the counter and into our tub because of her love for splashing.

Her newest skills include giving high fives and blowing bubbles (aka farting sounds…yes, we encourage her) on command. She is still pretty fun to have around.

Aiden

A couple weeks ago I flew down to California to visit my family and meet my newest nephew, Aiden, for the first time. He is adorable and a very sweet baby!

I spent the first half of my stay with Matt & Cherise and the rest with my parents. Ada had lots of fun meeting most of the family for the first time and playing with her cousin Holden. I’ll have a few more photos of our trip soon.

Ada is crawling now. She decided to do so while visiting family in California. This new milestone also makes taking her portraits a lot more challenging because she will not stay still. Thankfully my Mom was able to distract her long enough for this shoot, not so sure about future ones :)

Oregon Weekend

I have a little bit of catch-up to do. We have been busy busy busy with family events over the last couple of weeks. At the end of July we traveled to Oregon so Ada could meet her extended family (on my side) for the first time. On our way home we got to see Todd’s family in Olympia.

Ada just started to blow bubbles (raspberries?) and make “fun” sounds at the same time. We often laugh when she does it.

The two of us spent the day with some friends and took a few pictures at Boulevard Park in Fairhaven, it was a beautiful day for it.

Ada now loves to roll in both in directions on purpose and can get her knees up under her to rock back and forth. She sits unassisted and is getting better (but not perfect) about not face planting when done :)

Ada is starting to try solids. She seems to like everything she has tasted which has only been rice cereal and sweet potatoes. She also loves to drink out of a sippy cup, such a big girl now :)

Miss Ada turned six months old today. She is doing so many new things it is hard to keep up. Her first bottom tooth is coming in, she is sitting unsupported really well, she tries to sit up when on her back, she tries to lunge forward but ends up scooting backwards when on her hands and knees, she has rolled in both directions (but not because she meant to) and she is making more sounds. I’m pretty sure she is saying (crying) mama when she doesn’t want to go down for a nap! :)

I gave in and ordered the matching 7-12 month onesies…so this will continue :)

I thought I would share Ada’s newish found skill of sucking her big toe. She mostly does it on the changing table as soon as the diaper is unsnapped…but I got her to do again fully clothed for pictures :)

We had fun watching fireworks. There were several other families including the owner of Logos who let us all up on the roof. We really had a great view then! Ada loved watching the fireworks. Todd said she especially liked the green ones :)

On Sunday, while we had friends visiting from Canada, we decided to let Ada try out her new pool. She loved it! In the next couple of weeks we will be starting our baby swimming class at the Y, that should be fun too.

21 & 22 Weeks

Once again I am behind on posting Ada’s weekly updates (every Thursday)…this will probably be the norm for awhile so I will stop bringing it up :) There is just too little time in a day.

Last week Thursday was a nice day so I took a few outdoors with Ada in her new romper. The outfit is a little big but I love it and will probably take more when it fits her better.

This is Todd’s first official Father’s Day with his adorable Ada! He got to celebrate it last year but it wasn’t quite the same without getting to hold his baby girl.

I found Todd’s shirt at ThinkGeek (LOVE them) and I made Ada’s (thanks Julie!). For those of you who don’t speak geek, Todd’s shirt says DAD in binary and Ada’s says I LOVE DADDY. The most important thing is that I got all the numbers right thanks to an online binary alphabet code :)

Beach Babies

Last weekend we stayed at a beach house in Ocean Shores with Todd’s family to celebrate Cindy’s birthday. We had fun sharing meals and walking on the beach. Ada enjoyed seeing her cousin Bryden who had gotten so big since the last time we saw him.

It was Ada’s first time at the beach and she loved it, especially playing in the sand! We saw a baby harbor seal trying to warm himself on the beach while the tide was out. Hopefully he made it back to the sea since he was all by himself. We also saw sea horses, well, horses by the sea. Wish I could have rode one. The last pictures are of a shop called Sharkey’s. I loved the entrance!

Ada just started saying “m” sounds this week. She also twists her tongue and moves her lips with these new sounds, like she is trying to form words. It’s amazing how all of a sudden babies start doing something new! She can also sit unsupported for a few moments if she is balanced right.

Highland Games

This past Saturday Ada & I went to the Scottish Highland Games with our friends Jen & Kylie. We had fun listening to Celtic music, bagpipes and watching both guys and gals in the caber (aka a wooden pole) toss.

There’s nothing quite like seeing men in plaid skirts…er, I mean kilts!

I believe I am caught up on Ada’s weekly growth…she will be 20 weeks this Thursday so I’m not too far behind.

She actually held herself up on the chair (pictured below) for a few seconds. The little munchkin has a pretty strong grip which is not so fun with my long hair :)

Mother’s Day

I had a lovely first Mother’s Day spent with Todd’s family this year. We also got to meet the newest addition to the family, baby Bryden, he was so cute and tiny at two weeks! It’s amazing how little they start out, I forgot just how small Ada used to be :)

30th

Something about turning thirty was tough this year. I know thirty is young because I feel young (except for my creaky knees) but still, I think I have a right to feel hesitant about getting older :) I think the weeks leading up to my birthday were worse because the actual day was not too bad. It was rather nice and I got to spend it with my two favorite people! I also received some beautiful flowers from family & friends.

We had a hard time getting Ada to look at the camera, she was sooo fascinated by the sushi conveyor belt. I was fascinated too (it being my first experience) but I did manage to look at the camera :)

Fairhaven Walk

We spent the Saturday before my birthday (May 2) in Fairhaven because it was a beautiful day. For those of you not familiar with the Northwest, a “beautiful day” refers to sunshine and a temperature above 50 degrees :) The cherry tree blossoms were also gorgeous so I had to take a few (more like 100) pictures as usual. We ended the day with ice cream from the Colophon Café, yum!

Easter

I never got a chance to post from Easter Sunday on since my computer died shortly thereafter. Todd and I also got a nasty flu bug that week, thankfully Ada did not get it.

We had a wonderful Easter brunch & sermon at church and then were invited over to a church family’s home for dinner. Todd’s sister also had her sweet baby boy Bryden that evening.

I loved Ada’s Easter dress, it was a gift from my dear friend Jen.

In case you haven’t noticed it’s been a while since my last blog post. My computer died and my sweet husband had to spend his free time fixing it, so be sure to thank him :)

Ada is already over four months old, I can’t believe it. She is discovering her voice and loves to let out little screams these days. She still loves to suck on her hands… the whole fist or three fingers or two fingers or thumb…whatever she can fit. Ada can also grab her feet now which is pretty cute.

Ada is enjoying her bouncy seat that our friends gave us. She can rotate a full 360 with her legs and bounce a little bit. The seat is a bit big so I have to stuff blankets or towels behind her for support, but it works great!

Ada is becoming fascinated with her feet. She tries to grab for them when she can, like on the changing table. She makes it to about her ankles, but she will get them one of these days :) She has strong legs when we hold her and still loves to suck on her hands ALL the time. Oh, and she is starting to drool!

This is a bit late, she was three months last Wednesday.

Bottom Lip

I love Ada’s pouty face. Her bottom lip is just too cute! It is easily turned on and off, with or without tears. Today I was singing (more like vocal warm-up exercises) which made her cry and made for some cute pictures :)

I wanted to show off Ada’s cutest cloth diaper! Her other ones are pretty too, but in solid colors. So far cloth diapering has been easy, I just have to remember to do laundry every couple days. Little miss Ada has been talking quite a bit lately. She has a louder tone to her voice and a higher pitched cry :)

On Saturday Todd & I celebrated our sixth anniversary. It was a beautiful sunny day so we headed to Bellingham for dinner and a walk. We originally wanted sushi but they were not open for a couple more hours and because we had Ada with us we decided not to wait. We ate at Hearthfire by the bay and it was yummy too. Ada did very well in the restaurant and daddy even let her drive afterwards :)

Ada is growing stronger (and chunkier) by the week! She is weighing almost 13lbs these days. Ada can hold her neck up (with a slight wobble) and turn it to look around. She is also talking more and will express her dismay or delight very clearly. Her eyes are still big and blue and her hair is still radiant red!

I realized I never did a 9 week post, I ran out of time and energy. Ada’s sleeping habits have not been consistent making momma a little more tired these days. I do have to say that she is still amazing especially when she looks at me and gurgle talks, it is the cutest thing!

Ada turned a big two months on Sunday. She also discovered how to suck her thumb during church. I’m not quite sure how I feel about the thumb, I hear a pacifier is easier to break.

I’m pretty sure it was in honor of her two month birthday that Ada let me sleep 7 hours Saturday night! She has yet to do so since, but it felt great. It has been about a year since I have slept a solid night :)

This morning Ada & I met Todd for some yummy donuts at Rocket Donuts in Bellingham. The shop is decorated with a fun retro sci-fi theme, hence the robot picture. It was fun to get out and celebrate with Todd, even for just a few minutes with a hungry, fussy baby :)

First Walk

On Sunday we went for our first real walk (lasting more than 10 minutes) in the beautiful sunshine. I am now physically able to walk at a decent pace without pain. Oh, and we love our Bob stroller! It has an amazingly smooth ride thanks to its shocks and it is easy to steer, even one-handed.

Bath Time…

Much more fun! The first bath experience was rough so we decided to change a few things which made bath time much more pleasant. First of all, the smartest thing we did was make sure she had a full tummy. Second, we opened up the heat vent which made the bathroom nice and warm. Third, we used an actual tub from Todd’s sister instead of the sink. It’s a learning process and Ada is teaching us well! :)

She did really good. She sat there calmly while we bathed and poured water over her…I think she may have actually enjoyed it!

4 Weeks

Ada is one month old today! I can’t believe how quickly the time has passed. I am finding that I am enjoying her more and more each day. She brings me joy even in the middle of the night :) I love our little miracle and praise God for her.

My good friend Jessica gave me a set of onesies with the first six months printed on them. I will have fun with these!

Bathroom Redo

Since I just posted pictures of Ada in our bathroom, I thought now would be the time to share this old post I had saved :) The first picture is how it looked when we bought it, then we painted before moving in which is the second picture. The renovation started in 2009.

We are in the middle of a 2 year master bathroom project. It all started after we felt a soft spot in the floor around the toilet. Todd ripped up part of the vinyl and found water & mold damage. From there we decided that a new toilet and flooring were needed, but the floor went under the cabinets so we decided to replace those too.

It has taken us quite awhile and we still have a few more things to do, such as replacing the tub, shower tile, baseboards and exhaust fan. I’ll have more pictures when it is all complete, but here is a sneak peak.

Bath Time…

Not so much fun. Whether it be changing her diaper or dressing her, Ada hates being naked and communicates it very well. So giving Ada her first bath was an experience to say the least. A wet, slippery and wiggly baby seems difficult enough, here’s hoping it will get better :)

Family Visit

Here are a few more pictures from when my parents were here. We had a great time even though I was still recovering and couldn’t do much. The one outing we did take was going to Todd’s work and seeing his new office (where the bottom two were taken). Ada also had the pleasure of meeting Todd’s co-workers.

Ada was about two weeks old in these pictures.
